1) Last night, NBC aired the final episode of “Community” before the show went on indefinite hiatus. The Christmas-themed parody brought us, yes, glee, but now that we have no new episodes of the Greendale gang to look forward to, we are sad. In tribute, Pajiba offered a countdown of the 10 best “Community” episodes. Do you think they got it right?

2) New York Magazine’s Vulture also gave us this delightful clip of the “Community” cast playing the Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture Edition. We wish we could be on their teams.

3) Alison Brie, “Community”‘s Annie Edison, will soon be on the silver screen in “Five-Year Engagement.” In addition to two of our other beloved TV actors (Jason Segel and Chris Pratt) and Emily Blunt, this trailer offers romantic comedy fans like us hope for the future. And in our book, co-writers Segel and Nick Stoller are two-for-two after “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “The Muppets.”

4) Another dearly departed TV favorite, “My So-Called Life,” received the where-are-they-now? treatment, courtesy of an imaginative writer over at HelloGiggles. They sooooo pegged Brian Krakow.

5) Wondering what to get us for Christmas? We’ll take anything from Brookish, a lovely Etsy shop full of handmade goods inspired by the great Jane Austen herself.

2) Hungry for a sandwich? Screw Subway and Quiznos. For the same price, you can get one of the signature tasty creations at Toastie’s Sub Shop on South Lamar. The sandwich shop opened this summer, and if you haven’t stopped by, we heartily recommend it. Especially the Cali Club.

3) Glamour Magazine’s The Girls in the Beauty Department Blog has been featuring beauty vloggers all week who provide video tutorials on creating celebrity makeup looks. Even though we’ll never be that skilled with a slanted eyeliner brush, we may actually give some of these looks (as worn by Mila Kunis, Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry) a try, especially this one worn by Angelina Jolie:

4) Our frequently linked Pajiba has been showing some major love for screenwriter/showrunner Aaron Sorkin this week. First, they attempted the impossible by trying to rank the best Aaron Sorkin characters. We love that they included “The Social Network”‘s Mark Zuckerberg (a Sorkin creation, after all), who makes our own list at #5, followed by #4 Leo McGarry, #3 Dan Rydell, #2 Jed Bartlet and, of course, #1 Toby Ziegler. Next, Pajiba offered up 20 reasons you should watch Sorkin’s first series, “Sports Night.” The comedy, which ran on ABC for two seasons in the late 1990s, is one of our all-time favorites and is currently streaming on Netflix Instant. Ignore the grating laugh track, and you’ll get treated to moments like this one:

5) One Sorkin vet has been added to the cast of our beloved “Community” for its upcoming third season. That is none other than John Goodman, a.k.a. President Walken, a.k.a. Dan Motherloving Connor from “Roseanne.” Check out the latest “Community” promo:

The third season of “Community,” which begins on Sept. 22 on NBC, will also feature Michael K. Williams, a.k.a. the badass to end all badasses, Omar from “The Wire,” as the group’s new biology professor.

1) Check out the Hipster Animals tumblr for a handy illustrated zoological guide to categorizing the many species of hipsters who have found a habitat in Austin. We like the etsy crafter best:

2) You might catch some of the above creatures in their natural habitat at the Austin Farmers Market. With the weather so lovely, it’s the perfect time to pick up some locally grown produce to go along with a lazy outdoor barbecue. We recommend the downtown market, which is held at Republic Square Park on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (be warned that good things run out quickly, so it may be worth setting the alarm), but you can also get your fresh fix at Sunset Valley’s Tony Burger Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays or The Triangle from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. If you’re on a budget, we recommend eating beforehand.

3) As you can probably guess from the Chickstermag URL, we like our magazines. Our love for print media is why we can’t wait for the new documentary Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times. The film actually played SXSW (although O’Husband didn’t see it), and based on the new trailer that came out this week, we will be the first in line when it debuts in theaters.

4) “The Office” may not have been appointment viewing for us lately, but we tuned in last Thursday night to say goodbye to Michael Scott. After seven years, Steve Carrell’s bumbling branch manager said farewell to his Scranton staff in a low-key way. We kept it together until his final exchange with Jim, during which we dissolved into a sobbing mess. In case you missed it, here’s the bittersweet scene:

5) Yes, we stuck it out through all the boring bits to watch Kate Middleton become Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, early last Friday morning, but what we wish we’d seen on all that nonstop television camera was her heavenly reception frock, which was sleek, simple, and divine.

Thursdays are rough. The weekend is so close but so far away. So to lift our work-weary spirits, we’re going to be listing five things we love each week, which could be an awesome cocktail, a TV show, a movie, a song, a book, a cupcake or anything that makes our hearts happy.

1) (Gabino, you may want to skip this one!) Over at The Hairpin, we’ve been loving the How To Be A Girl series of makeup and hair tutorials from Jane Feltes, who also produces one of our favorite radio shows, “This American Life.” Check out her hot-roller lessons:

How to Be a Girl, With Jane Feltes: Hot Rollers from The Hairpin on Vimeo.

2) We have fallen in love with A.A. Bondy‘s “Lover’s Waltz.” This American folk artist from Birmingham, Alabama, released his debut solo album, American Hearts, in 2008, with a stripped-down sound of enchanting indie-folk. Watching a friend and her new husband spin on the dance floor to this sweetly sincere song was a true tearjerker moment, especially after a picture-perfect ceremony at the rustic yet lovely 3 Points Ranch venue in Round Mountain, Texas.

3) We’re also loving the elaborate, visual feast of fantasy from the premiere of “Game of Thrones” on Sunday. The cinematic series is based on the “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels by George R. R. Martin and full of all the NSFW business we love best about HBO.

4) Elsewhere in TV land, it seems like everyone has been buzzing about last Thursday’s near-perfect episode of “Parks and Recreation,” and rightly so. April and Andy’s surprise wedding demonstrated once again exactly why this smart, sweet show is a more-than-worthy successor to “The Office.” Plus, it gave NY Mag’s Vulture blog the chance to make this GIF of Rob Lowe’s Chris Treager busting a move:

Speaking of Mr. Lowe, while he may not be our type, we must give props to any 47-year-old man who looks like this on the cover of Vanity Fair (great story, too):

We’re super thrilled NBC has renewed both “Parks and Rec” and “Community” for next season so we can continue to follow up Jeff Winger & Co.’s hilarious weekly deconstruction of pop culture semiotics with the heart of the Pawnee Parks Department.

5) The Middle East is a misnomer for this band originating from Australia. In their haunting song “Blood,” the twinkling melody and harmonies coupled with scattered crescendoes belie a tragic subject matter. This dark, puppet show collage of a video brings the lyrics to life, fancifully illustrating the loss of a lover to skin cancer.

The weekend is so close but so far away. So to lift our work-weary spirits, we’re going to be listing five things we love each week, which could be an awesome cocktail, a TV show, a movie, a song, a book, a cupcake or anything that makes our hearts happy.

1) The bluegrass trio The Wailin’ Jennys (a clever play off of Waylon Jennings, for all you classic country music fans out there) just released their new album Bright Morning Stars in February. Take a listen to their lovely harmonies with this clip of one of our favorite tracks, “Cherry Blossom Love”:

2) Not sure where you want to take a trip to next? Here’s an original idea for travel planning that appeals to our inner bookworm, courtesy of travel blog Trazzler. Who wouldn’t want to visit the Chateau D’If and fully immerse yourself in Dumas’ Count of Monte Cristo?

3) This video clip zeros in on the man behind the camera of the fashion blog The Sartorialist. Scott Schumann’s photo blog is people-watching at its finest, a virtual park bench from which you can view the most original, well-tailored and fashionable peeps roaming the streets of New York and the world. His unfailing eye for stunning snapshots and intriguing compositions makes his site one of the most popular blogs on the interwebs.

4) We’ve only just discovered writer Tana French, who has churned out three Dublin-set mysteries that are so compelling and so fraught with tension that they’re making it hard for us to sleep at night. We suggest starting with her Edgar Award-winning debut, In The Woods, before continuing to The Likeness and then her latest, Faithful Place, whose paperback arrival we’re eagerly awaiting.

5) It’s almost Easter, and you know what that means. No, not chocolate bunnies and Peeps. New episodes of “Doctor Who”! We’re loving the new trailer released this week that promises this season will finally reveal the true identity of River Song. For the first time, episodes will air the same night on BBC America as they do on BBC One in the UK. So mark your calendar for April 23.

And now for one thing we didn’t like. Sucker Punch, in addition to being one of the worst movies we’ve ever seen, commits a number of sins, including the bastardization of songs by The Smiths and The Pixies, masking the fetishization of young women as “girl power” and the employment of Vanessa Hudgens, but most egregious of all is the fact that it is mind-numbingly dull. Here’s hoping Christopher Nolan is able to keep Zack Snyder from ruining the newest Superman reboot.

Lying spread eagled on a table with hot wax on some very sensitive bits of my anatomy, well, let’s just say, I didn’t expect to find myself laughing. I expected to be freaked out of my mind or at the very least grimacing in agonizing pain. I’m not going to lie, getting a Brazilian wax is no picnic, but it certainly wasn’t the torture I’d been anticipating. Maybe it was because I had (literally) put myself in the hands of the professionals at Beautiful Me LLC.

In a treatment room in the Regenesis health center off South Lamar, Tracy and Navya provide a variety of skin care services, but it is their Brazilian waxes that have earned them Best of Citysearch honors for the past two years. I’d always wanted to try the Brazilian, but I was nervous. Every eyebrow wax I’d ever had ended with horrendous red marks on my eyelids that lasted for days and sometimes even scabbed. Not exactly what I want on my lady parts. But Beautiful Me came highly recommended through the local message boards on Weddingbee, and I decided to take the plunge.

From the minute I walked into the Beautiful Me treatment room, I felt a little less nervous. Or maybe it was the fact that I’d taken two ibuprofen beforehand and also skipped my morning coffee, like their website recommended. The treatment room was decked out in soothing light colors and soft music. And as soon as I met Navya, she put me right at ease. She was so warm and friendly that I didn’t feel (terribly) self-conscious about undressing in front of a complete stranger. Before we got started, she explained step-by-step exactly how the waxing would work, and throughout the entire wax, she updated me on what she was doing next, when to breathe and where to place my hands to help make the process easier. And with all this going on, she managed to keep talking, telling me stories about her life and keeping my mind distracted from the pain.

As for that pain, it really wasn’t as terrible as I had been anticipating. The first part, which Navya dubbed “the fire zone,” hurt the worst, and after that, it was all downhill. Honestly, maybe I’ve had some bad brow waxes, but every brow wax I’d ever had hurt worse than the Brazilian. So if you think you could power through a 45-minute brow wax, chances are you could make it through a 45-minute Brazilian no problem. Just be sure to take those ibuprofen beforehand.

And one last word of caution: Did you ever see the episode of “Sex and the City” where the ladies are in LA and Carrie gets her first Brazilian? She later blames it for the fact that she nearly slept with the slimeball played by Vince Vaughn, and she’s not entirely wrong, because after you’ve taken that trip to Brazil, it’s really hard for the next few days to think about anything BUT Brazil.
