Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus: Netflix Instant Maybe of the Week?
Okay, I know what you’re thinking: Is this movie bad? Do the special effects even justify a title like this? The answers are yes and no. The effects are just as terrible as the acting and the story. At one point, as pointed out by Conan O’Brien, Mega Shark somehow jumps an impossible 10,000 feet into the air and eats an airplane and only one passenger sees it coming with a “holy shit!” The effects are not good: The shark is never on screen long, even when it’s biting through the Golden Gate Bridge for a mere second, very unrealistically. It is bad. That being said. You have to watch it. It is so terrible that it is really entertaining. I mean, a giant shark and a octopus fight and you barely see anything. The clearest picture you will see of their much-anticipated fight is the movie cover to the left of this post. Also, at one point a really hot girl scientist does it with this nerdy scientist over-actor who does nothing but spout long-winded philosophies that sound like bad poetry. And to introduce the topic while they’re getting hot over test tubes—that are obviously filled with food coloring (they nod a lot at the food coloring like it means something)— she merely asks, “Do you wanna go take a walk? You know, a walk?” It is bad. But oh so fun. I may even watch Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus after this. I figure. Why not? I’ve already devoted an hour and a half of my life to this. What’s one more…hour and a half?

I did watch Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus and I can’t in good conscience recommend it as a maybe movie. Even though it was the sequel to the above, it was lower budget, with worse special effects, cheesier acting (even though it was fun to see Urkel again) and there wasn’t even any unbelievably silly pick-up lines!
But, there was one great scene where the shark swallowed a missile and could fly super fast and they certainly had a longer fight scene this time that you could see and everything…
[...] it much more than “Mega Shark Versus Crocosaurus” (2010) and almost as much as “Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus” [...]
