Five Things We Love This Week: TV Edition

Happy Bastille Day, mes amis! We hope you are celebrating just like we are – with these delicious and lovely macarons from La Boite. Today is also a special day for pop culture fans because the 2011 Emmy Nominations were announced. In honor of this annual occasion, we are dedicating this edition of Five Things We Love This Week to all things on the small screen.

1) This year, those Emmy nominations were read by Pacey and Melissa McCarthy (Sookie from our beloved “Gilmore Girls”), the latter of whom rigorously trained for the occasion with previous Emmy nomination announcer and “Community” star Joel McHale.

2) Between Joel McHale, Donald Glover and Danny Pudi, “Community” is certainly not short on eye candy, but we should also pay some lip service to our other “Community” Chickster crushes, Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs, who look seriously gorgeous in this month’s GQ. Yowza!

3) One of the shows to receive the most Emmy nominations was, of course, “Mad Men,” which is coming off our favorite season in the show’s history. Like most fans of the show, we have run into problems in our lives and found ourselves wondering, “What Would Don Draper Do?” Luckily, The Oatmeal put together this super helpful flowchart to answer that age-old question.

4) While “Parks and Recreation” itself and Amy Poehler received Emmy nods, we were bummed to see Nick Offerman’s name missing from the nominations. As Ron Swanson, Nick Offerman has created a modern-day character who could easily rival Don Draper in manliness (and the need for a Tumblr dedicated to Cats That Look Like Ron Swanson). Just check out this seven-minute video NBC posted of all of Ron Swanson’s many food references.

5) Finally, if you’re sick of people like us who can’t stop talking about the TV shows they love, you will probably identify with one of the Pacman ghosts in this fun College Humor sketch.

  • I just stumbled across a video of all of Emmy nominee Connie Britton’s “y’alls” as Tami Taylor on “Friday Night Lights.” I so want to be Tami Taylor when I grow up.

  • Those macarons from La Boite are delicious! I loved that Mad Men WWDDD? infographic.

  • Ha ha ha. Cats That Look Like Ron Swanson. What Would Don Draper Do?

  • I don’t know if I have a bigger crush on Tami or her daughter Julie. :)

  • The fleur de sel is my favorite macaron. I could eat one every day. Yum.

Doug, I am right there with you on the Tami love but am no so sure about Julie. I have never forgiven her for leaving Matt for The Swede in S2.

  • Best line: “If you can’t catch that chicken for no reason…”

  • LOL Shelby. The final season of FNL was a bit tedious but I watched the series finale over the weekend and thought it was touching and really well done.

BTW, if you’re still thinking about ordering from dai due, this would be a good week. The game hen with fresh herbes de provence is one of the best things I’ve ever cooked at home in an oven. I just followed their minimal directions. (1 hen is enough for 2 people).

  • Can’t wait for the final season to be on Instant. Hurry up, Netflix!!!

Thanks for the tip on the game hen!
