What Are The Best Austin Coffee Shops To Work Out Of?
Whether you work from home or have a job that requires some travel, you’ve probably found yourself working out of a coffee shop at some point. I’ll admit that when I do have an opportunity to take my laptop out for a latte, I tend to end up at Starbucks. Nothing against the coffee giant, but I’d like to start adding some local flavor to my office-away-from-the-office.
Any suggestions for the best Austin coffee shops to work out of? And why do you like your favorite? Is it the delicious brew, comfortable seating or abundance of electrical outlets?
On a related note, The Good Men Project has an educational post on 11 Tips For Working Out of a Coffee Shop. And I wish I could work out of the coffee shop that the photographed cappuccino above came from, but sadly, it’s in Florence, Italy, and that’s a bit too long of a commute.

Epoch on 53rd, Flight Path on 51st, Spider House on 30th and Mozart’s on Lake Austin, all have good ambiance. Though Flight Path is somewhat of a reoccurring crowd, who will look at you funny if you haven’t been there before, or often.
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve never been to Epoch or Flight Path, so I’ll have to check those out. I love Mozart’s, although if you sit outside, you’re limited to the life of your battery, right? Or are there outlets?
Epoch is my favorite! I love Spider House too but can never accomplish anything there, I always get distracted. Another one to try might be JP’s Java on San Jacinto, I spent a ton of time studying there in grad school (plus Crown and Anchor is within walking distance when you finally decide you want to give up on coffee and have a pint instead). I also go to Thunderbird on Koenig from time to time to write.
Ooooohhh. Thunderbird. I wanna add that one to my list, too. Plus they have $2 Lonestars, or is it $1?, on Thursdays.
I think I’d rather work with pints than coffee any day!
I used to work out of Epoch occasionally too, until one of the baristas was super rude to me because I tipped when his back was turned. Mozart’s has a nice deck and it’s quiet, but I don’t like their chai (which is pretty much all I drink).
I’m managing a coworking space now called Cospace – cospaceatx.com. It’s more social than working from home, but unlike a coffee shop, people actually come here to work. We’ve got coffee, tea, snacks and beer all included, too.
If anyone would like a tour – please come by! I’d be happy to give you a tour and a free trial day on the house. I’d love to get some ladies in here – I’m a bit outnumbered!

Thanks, Sarah C.! I’d love to check Cospace out!
Please do! Let me know a good time and come on by!
Hi ! I also manage and own coworking space in Austin, it’s called Link Coworking. We have an open bright space for you set up and get some work done. We offer free coffee, snacks, wireless internet and vibrant community that is about 60% female. We would love to give anyone a tour and your first day is always free.
Cheers – Liz
Thanks, Liz! I’d love to check Link Coworking out as well.
We definitely dig Epoch, and just did a little write-up about them recently. You can read it here, if you’re interested: http://shoestringaustin.com/2011/04/17/lazy-sundays-kickin-it-at-epoch-coffee/
I didn’t realize Epoch was 24 hours! Thanks for the tip, Shoestring.
