Shakespeare on the Farm

Tonight is your last chance to catch the wonderful Shakespeare on the Farm out at beautiful Rain Lily Farm in East Austin. The production of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” as presented by The Present Company is chockablock with wit, fun and a very talented cast of performers.

While staying faithful to the original text, the production incorporates a few modern touches, like contemporary dress and performances of songs by Tom Waits and Mumford & Sons. Everyone in the cast is enjoyable to watch, especially leads Stephanie Carll as Beatrice and Joseph Garlock as Benedick, but a special shoutout must be had for Ray Wortel as Dogberry, who stole every scene he was in. I’ll be eagerly watching to see what The Present Company does next.

Shakespeare on the Farm is free to attend, but donations are encouraged and can even buy you a specialty cocktail courtesy of Dripping Springs Vodka. Bring blankets, chairs and any food or drink you could want, and enjoy a night of compelling theatre amid the luscious backdrop of the farm for a uniquely Austin experience.

  • That sounds pretty freakin awesome.

  • Benedick was my favorite! It was a great performance and I loved the modern music – the cast all seemed to be very talented musicians as well as actors.

  • Yes, I forgot to mention the guitars and the clarinet and everyone’s lovely a capella voices.
