Austin Rodeo

If you haven’t caught the Austin Rodeo yet, you might want to consider it since there’s only two days left. I went last weekend and thought the $25 I spent for the ProRodeo and The Band Perry concert was well worth it. Not only do you get to see steer wrestling, mutton bustin’, (yes where children ride lambs and get thrown off. It’s hilarious. I know. I’m going to hell, but they wear helmets and seem to be fine after, though a little stunned. And one little tyke did stay on for an impressive 93 seconds), and bull riding; you also get to see a slew of awesome performers since it falls both during and near SXSW. (Both LeAnn Rimes  and Clay Walker  performed this year.)

The Power

There’s also an awesome carnival with tons of rides. Check out The Power if you’re not too afraid (I was), including a Ferris wheel (the crowd favorite), a gravitron and lots of twisty vomit-inducing rides that you can enjoy until 1 a.m., if you’re able. My husband and I could only manage to ride five before the nausea got to us. But that’s pretty good for a carnival and the “fairground only” tickets are merely $7.

There’s also a petting zoo in the “Kid’s Corner” and a chance to interact with cows, horses, deer, rabbits, etc., at the Livestock Barn.

  • Petting zoo! Someday I’m going to have to get some goats and miniature donkeys for my backyard.

  • I love mini goats!
