Bleet-Up Review, Positive :)

With the motto “Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your Twitter handle,” the latest Bleet-up took place this past Friday. What’s a Bleet-Up, you ask? It’s where a bunch of bloggers meet atop the Whole Foods Market to scoff at the tiny ice rink and pay $7 for free food and a drink ticket as well as relish the chance to buy a six-pack from Whole Foods and bring it up to the terrace. Oh yes. That’s allowed. The wine? The Velvet Devil merlot is demonically good; the hosts also served beer and wine in tiny cups while we were waiting in the large line to get in. Considerate?
The highlights consisted of a spray can (I can’t believe it’s not squeeze cheese) that you could spray into the form of an organic pancake and eat. Actually pretty good. And a band that played an almost Emo version of the song “You’re The One That I want” from Grease. It’s hard to imagine but this odd cover was actually awesome and almost unrecognizable.
The Austin Bleet-up was begun by local bloggers Richard Gonzalez of Ultra8201, and Tolly Moseley from Austin Eavesdropper, winner of Austin American-Statesman‘s 2010 Texas Social Media Award, to bolster social media outside the computer.
There were also stands for everything from Honest Tea to the WonderCraft. The Photo booth put on by Cory Ryan also had no lack of reindeer antlers and Rudolf noses to really get you into the spirit.
The Austin Blogger Awards, hosted by Republic of Austin, alas, did not give Chickster any awards, but there’s always next year. In fact, we’re campaigning now. Vote for us. We promise to post more.

Ooh, this reminds me. I really want to buy a bottle of that wine. What was it? Velvet something or rather?
Velvet Devil.
