I just stumbled on your post looking for info on the drive from Midland to Big Bend. And it is perfect! We are also city mice heading out to the wilderness for a birthday soiree in Big Bend next month. We will use this as our guidance and Plan B if our planned accommodations are too rustic! Great post. Thanks, Bee! I really liked Alpine a lot, and I will definitely have to check those places out if I ever go back. And I think a lot of the problem with the lights was just about expectations. I had thought they would be like the Northern Lights.

Sorry to read about your experience with the lights. A lot of people make the mistake of going to the wrong location. I used to live in Alpine as a young child. If you ever go back be sure to eat campenchanas at La Casita and Alicia’s Burritos for breakfast!!
