There are few things I love as much as drinking something pink and alcoholic, laughing with my favorite ladies and watching movies, so I am eternally grateful to the Alamo Drafthouse for hosting a monthly Girlie Night screening. This month Girlie Night brings us “Big,” starring my dream husband when I was a little girl, Mr. Tom Hanks. When I first watched this movie as a kid, all I could think about was how much fun it all was, from the famous floor piano in FAO Schwartz to having a trampoline in your awesome penthouse. But when I watched it again about five years ago, I realized more than anything that the movie is a lesson in how completely and soul-crushingly un-fun it can be to be an adult, which makes it all the more important to never quit finding ways to make all the boring crap fun. And even though this is Girlie Night, this really isn’t a lesson for girls. It’s a lesson for everyone.
The Girlie Night screening of “Big” is tonight at 7 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz and will be hosted by the lovely Sarah Pitre. For more information on the Girlie Night series, click here.

Watching the movie again now that I’m a quasi-adult, I think this time I’ll relate most to his desire to suddenly be “small” again (once he realizes all the un-fun things that come along with being grown up) rather than vice versa. But I still agree with the main message that simple joys are the best, whether you’re an adult or a child.
Amen! You put that much better than I did.
did you make it out last night?! i hope so! i think my favorite part was looking down the row and seeing everyone nibbling on their baby corn. ha ha just kidding my favorite part was THE ENTIRE MOVIE COS IT IS SO WONDERFUL!!!
Hi Sarah, we did make it out last night, and it was awesome! The baby corn was a nice touch, and I loved the girlie drink. Now I want big straws for all my drinks! Can’t wait for Pretty Woman next month.
