Amy Cook’s “Let the Light In” CD Release

Apr 1, 2010 by     5 Comments    Posted under: Austin-tatious Events

I was recently introduced to songstress Amy Cook at Pecha Kucha #6 (that’s “chit chat” in Japanese for the uninitiated) last November at the awesome Sustainable Waves studios in East Austin. In short, Pecha Kucha is a brief presentation format where each chosen presenter has a slide show of 20 images and has 20 seconds per slide to make their point about their area of expertise.

Cook’s “Song About Writing A Song” was a huge hit with the audience and showcased not only her musical talent and husky voice but also her photography, drawings and sense of humor. An L.A. transplant who has called Austin home since 2005, you can listen to KGSR or visit her website, amycook.com to hear her songs. She was also the subject of a 2009 documentary “Amy Cook: The Spaces in Between.” Her alt-folk and Americana fusion of sound captures the warm, golden-kissed feel of summer and has been featured on television shows such as “Laguna Beach,”  ”Veronica Mars” and “Felicity.”

The release party for Cook’s new CD “Let the Light In” will be happening at the lovely Hotel San Jose on South Congress next Thursday, April 8, from 6 – 9 p.m. Produced by Alejandro Escovedo, the album features musical contributions by local favorites Escovedo, Patty Griffin, and Ben Kweller. Cook will also be performing an in-store at Waterloo Records April 6 at 5 pm and be touring with Heartless Bastards, a garage rock band from Cincinnati, this spring.

  • I love her stuff!

  • She sounds great! And it makes me happy that her songs were featured in three TV shows I love.

  • Her stuff has also been used on “Dawson’s Creek.” I left it out on purpose since I never dug that show. :P

  • I am embarrassed to say I did. Which I probably shouldn’t admit to the entire Internet.

  • Amy Cook is on the cover of the “Austin Chronicle” this week!
