Master Pancake: “Goldfinger” This Weekend
This Friday and Saturday Master Pancake Theatre takes on Bond, James Bond, for the third week running, this time at the Alamo Drafthouse Village. “Goldfingaaaaaaaaah” as Shirley Bassey sings in the movie’s theme song, is the 1964 classic movie featuring a sexy, Scottish accent drawling Sean Connery (the ONLY Bond as far as I’m concerned). From the opening scene, where he paddles up in his stealthy scuba gear with a bird on his head to jumping out of Goldfinger’s careening airplane, the man can pull anything off with just the right amount of cool confidence. As Miranda Hobbes of “Sex and the City” quips when asked which movie star she lusts after, “Sean Connery: yesterday, today and tomorrow.” It’s no wonder the man gets Pussy Galore.
“Goldfinger” has it all, an evil mastermind (check), elaborate murderous plots ranging from…um…skin suffocation to frickin’ laser beams (check), and strangely sinister henchman, the bowler-hat-wielding Oddjob (check!). The Pancake team’s sidesplitting antics, including my personal favorite, an ode to “Young Frankenstein”, are sure to keep you amused. If you prefer your Master Pancake shaken but not stirred, be sure to catch the show before its final run this Saturday.

Looks hilarious.
It’s worth the price of admission just to see John Erler in gold lamé!
Agreed about the gold lame! And I loved the “Young Frankenstein” tribute too.
