DJ Riley M at Karma Lounge
DJ Riley M spun at the Karma Lounge (8th and Colorado) last night from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. and gave a performance that whipped the seemingly experienced rave dancers, with their broken but liquid motions, into even more of a frenzy.
Karma is an unassuming space that’s a hybrid of lounge and dance club. But despite its small size, it’s well equipped, with long cushy couches along walls and a small but functional dance floor, for both lounging and dancing. It also has lights and a mist generator set up in the back which bring even more authenticity to a DJ’s performance.
DJs at this establishment have a reputation of being fairly well chosen and well liked overall, and DJ Riley M was no exception. He was as unassuming as the space itself, but the gathered crowd—who all felt moved to dance at some point (Yes, even the Chickster team!)—seemed very entertained and even chanted his name at the close of his set, which transitioned flawlessly into the next performance (due to the foresight to prepare for the next set on one side of the turntable while the preceding set was still being performed).
DJ Riley M’s transitions were smooth throughout, the beats were hard but not unnecessarily ground-shattering and overall the performance was solid yet fluid musically. His techno was a nice blend of minimal techno and tek house.
“I’d say my original influences were John Digweed, Sasha, Deep Dish but lately I’ve really been getting into Chris Leibing, Audio Injection, and Joel Mull,” said Riley. “I like to DJ because I think it’s a genre of music that’s not totally exploited where everybody is in it for the money.”
DJ Riley M will return to Karma Thursday, April 8th, at 10pm.

Can I just say how glad I am that there are no photos of me dancing in this post?
No because I’m very sad my camera died.
There should be pictures of you dancing. And Brian. Hah! Why do all these electronics insist I charge them? They can’t be self sufficient?
It was a great show!
